“ Feast of Dukarana of St.Thomas the Apostle ”

Dukarana Perunnal of St.Thomas the Apostle is on July 3rd. It is the Day of Obligation to the Syro-Malabar Christians. So, we will have holy Qurbana on Tuesday July 3rd, at 7.00 p.m.

Since St.Thomas the Apostle is the Patron Saint of our Parish, we celebrate the Feast on July 6,7 & 8. On this occasion, it is well and good to know more about St.Thomas the Apostle, our Father in Faith. He was an unlearned simple fisherman in Galilee. He was called by Jesus to become one of His twelve Apostles. His passionate love for his Master is shown to us in three places in the Gospel of St.John: 1. “Let us also go, that we may die with Him” ( Jn.11,16). 2. It was only because of his great love towards Jesus, he wants to know the way to reach Him. “ Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” (Jn.14, 5). It was a searching for the way to Jesus. 3. His passionate love made him also to search and to find out the Risen Lord. When St.Thomas saw the Risen Jesus, he uttered that timeless act of faith “ My Lord and my God” (Jn.20,28) which the Church has since richly indulgenced for use at the elevation of the Sacred Host in Holy Qurbana and at Benediction. Hence, St.Thomas the Apostle is a searching Thomas, not a doubting Thomas.

The missionary activities of St.Thomas after the dispersal of the Apostles are said to have been among Meds, Persians, and neighboring people and Indians. St Thomas, after landing at Kodungallur in A.D. 52, established seven and half Churches (Ezharappallikal):  Maliankara, Palayoor, Kottakavu, Kokkamangalam, Niranam, Kollam and Chayal. The half Church : Thiruvithamkode. In Madrass, at Mylapore, St.Thomas is believed to have met his death by spear. There the miraculous Cross of St.Thomas in stone carving was found out in 7th century, and is venerated.

May God bless our Parish and our families through the intercession of St.Thomas to deepen our faith and to be the zealous missionaries of the Lord Jesus. I wish you A Very Happy Feast of Dukarana of St.Thomas Apostle, the Patron Saint of our Parish.
