“ Church, Sacrament of Salvation ”

According to our Liturgical Cycle, we are now in the season of “ Kaitha”. The term Kaitha means summer. It is the season of harvest.  This season reminds us of the Growth of the Church as a result of the missionary activity of the Apostles. Church was instituted by Christ with its unique characteristic – The Salvation of the world. Holy Bible testify the Divine Foundation of the Church: 1. God the Father plans the salvation of men. 2. It was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. 3.  The process of salvation is being continued in the Church by the work of the Holy Spirit.

Role of the Father: God created man to share His Goodness and Perfection. But man was separated by himself from God by his sin. In the history of salvation we see that God was trying to bring back man to Himself. (Exodus 3, 17)

Role of the Son: Jesus Christ came to the world according to the plan of the Father. He, through his paschal mystery (passion, death and resurrection) achieved the redemption of the world. Today by our participation and reception of the Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharistic Celebration, we become partakers of the Paschal Mystery, and thereby the salvation  effected by Christ. (Jn.10, 10)

Role of the Holy Spirit: At the completion of the salvation process by the Son, the Father sent the Holy Spirit upon the Church. The Holy Spirit sanctifies her to the fulfillment of the knowledge of God. This working of the Holy Spirit will be actively present in the Church till the second coming of Christ. (Jn.14, 26)

Church, the Sacrament of Salvation:  Sacrament is the visible sign of the invisible Grace of God. Church is a visible sign of salvation which gives us invisible eternal life and Spirit of God. So Church is a Sacrament. Hence, salvation is only through Christ and His Church ( Jn. 14, 1 -14).

6th  Diocesan Convention – Atlanta

(July 26 – 29)

The Convention went on very well. It was a great success with good participation from every Parish. More than 1500 people including the youth ( about 500) were in the Convention. We were 18 from our Parish: Joyce & Mini family, Mathew & Mary family, Regi & Lucy family, Elsy Vithayathil, Avarachan and myself. It was a family celebration of Syro-Malabar faithful in the United States and Canada. It helped us to study and know more about our Church and its tradition. Our presence and participation was highly appreciated by the Diocese. Sincere thanks to all the participants.
