MISSION  SUNDAY

This year the Mission Sunday is on October 21st. Every year one Sunday is set apart to celebrate it as Mission Sunday. Why ?  To know and to support the Mission of the Church. Jesus sent forth His disciples into the world to continue His Mission on earth. “ Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation…” (Mk.16, 14-18). This is the Mission of the Church. Every baptized Christian is a member of the Church of Christ sharing the duty of carrying out her mission on earth. So, every member of the Church has the right and duty to preach the Gospel and planting the Church among the peoples who do not yet believe in Christ.

In the Church, there is diversity of service, but unity of purpose. By Sacred Ordination, the Priests have the duty of teaching, sanctifying and ruling in the name and power of Christ. But the laity too, share in the priestly, prophetic and royal office of Christ ( the threefold mission of Christ), for the people of God in the Church and in the world.

Preaching God’s love for humanity expressed through the Christ-events may be said to be primary mission of the Church. This may be done in different ways according to prophet Micah. He makes three specific demands on the people : to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with God ( Micah 6,8). Actions on behalf of justice transform the world fully which would be the result of preaching the Gospel. It is the Church’s Mission for the redemption of the human race and its liberation from every oppressive situation.

Each Christian has to be brought to the conviction that “ I have a great role in the Mission of the Church”. So, let us help the Mission by our prayers and financial support. It is something great that we can do in the Year of Faith.
